  • October 17, 2007 Think Pink Thursdays  Mike Kowall, Director of Diagnostic Imaging, announces that the Mammography Department at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital will sponsor “Think Pink Thursdays” on the third Thursday of every month from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. starting November 15.
  • October 10, 2007 Diabetes Support Group to Meet  In place of the regular monthly meeting of the Diabetes Support Group, Avera Queen of Peace will host an informal “Diabetes Open House” on Tuesday, October 16, in the Teleconference Center at the hospital.

  • October 5, 2007 Avera Queen of Peace Foundation to Host “a Splash of Spirits”  Geri Beck, Director, Avera Queen of Peace Foundation, announces that the second annual “a Splash of Spirits,” will be held Saturday, November 10, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the Highland Mall in Mitchell. Beck explained, “a Splash of Spirits” last year celebrated the hospital’s centennial as well as raised funds for cancer care, and the Corn Palace was the site for that once-in-a-lifetime event.
  • October 5, 2007 Avera Queen of Peace Hospital Hosts Diabetes Open House  Avera Queen of Peace will host an open house for individuals with diabetes on Tuesday, October 16, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Teleconference Center at the hospital. Diabetes educators will be available along with vendors representing diabetes products. Free information will be available to take home and refreshments will be served. The open house is a come and go event.
  • October 5, 2007 Avera Queen of Peace to Host Breast Cancer Update  Avera Queen of Peace is hosting a free Breast Cancer Update on Monday, October 15, at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room at the hospital. Anwarul Haq, MD, Medical Oncologist/Hematologist, a member of the Medical Staff and in practice at the Avera Queen of Peace Cancer Center, will discuss the signs, symptoms, and treatment of breast cancer. Two individuals will share their personal stories about cancer.
  • October 3, 2007 Rasmusson Named to SDAHO Board  Tamara Miller, Administrator/CEO, Madison Community Hospital in Madison, assumed the duties of Chairperson of the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Organizations at the annual convention last week in Sioux Falls. In addition, Thomas P. Rasmusson, President and CEO, Avera Queen of Peace Health Services, was elected to a three-year term as a Board Member at Large and Kim Berg, Director of Public Relations, Avera Weskota Memorial Medical Center, was elected President of the South Dakota Association of Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations.
  • September 27, 2007 Clinics Assist With Immunization Improvements  With eighty-six percent (86%) of 24 to 35 month-olds appropriately immunized, South Dakota is drawing closer to the state’s goal of a 90% childhood immunization rate. A number of clinics were recognized at the Department of Health awards luncheon on September 26 in Pierre for their assistance in helping the state to achieve that rate.

Meaney, M.D., has accepted the position of Medical Information Officer for Avera Queen of Peace Health Services; this position is in addition to his medical practice at Family Medical Center in association with Theresa M. Campbell, M.D.
  • September 12, 2007 Avera Brady Re-Registered in Eden Alternative Registry  Avera Brady Health and Rehab and Avera Brady Assisted Living have been notified that they are re-registered in the Eden Alternative Registry. The Eden Alternative is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to remaking the experience of aging and disability across America and around the world.
